Blocking in some fibermesh hair for sarumon

General / 20 December 2020

Little update with fibermesh hair on this guy.  Im still gonna add some more fibers to cleanup areas here and there, but the base of it is all in now.  Will probably start cleaning up the sculpt and painting next before I dive any deeper into tweaking the fibermesh at this point.

Previous iteration and concept below:

Sarumon Stylized sculpt

General / 17 December 2020

Roughing in this sculpt of Sarumon based on the awesome concept art by Met Mangindaan : https://www.artstation.com/artwork/loqeJ

I wanted to attempt some fibermesh hair with this one.  I've messed around with fibermesh before, but never really made anything decent out of it so well see... haha.  Sculpt needs some more polish and a paint job of course, But I think since the secondary forms are in place now I'll start with the fibermesh hair next. :)

Little more work on Hugh Jackman likeness study

General / 20 November 2020

Think Ive taken this far enough that I will move onto some render tests and start detailing.  I went thru and made a proper base mesh subd 0 for him with udims.  So he's all ready for working on high fidelity.  So magic will happen soon! haha.

Hugh Jackman likeness sculpt

General / 14 November 2020

Started this Hugh Jackman Sculpt the other day as Im taking this Kris Costa photo real-rendering class.  I chose this actor mainly because there is a lot of good reference out there of him.  Since this is my first go at a high fidelity photo real render like this I think it makes sense to choose an actor who has good reference to eliminate a lot of the guess work.  Anyway well see, its still super early as I am just getting to the secondary forms now.

NPR Rendering tutorial in zbrush is posted! (BPR Filters)

General / 11 November 2020

Just a little shameless self promotion here, haha.  Last night I finally managed to upload this video tutorial along with all the necessary files to help people easily create renders in zbrush like my little robot buddy here.  I promised a long time ago I would do this but better late then never! XD

Mostly done with Supercell Art challenge:

General / 02 October 2020

I have everything mostly done for this Supercell art challenge. I Just need to make some presentation sheets and sorta nail down the final render style for this.

Actually, I'm on the fence should I add a black outline to this, or do some cell shaded look or both?  I have seen Supercell do sorta all of the above and I'm just not sure yet.  The main style I was going for was the high quality render style of the bottom image here "Art Style".

Anyway here is where I am at with this now...

My original concept:

Art style goal:  Maybe? LOL

Supercell Art Challenge: update

General / 27 September 2020

Got the major shapes in on this guy and color block.  (my original concept can be seen in my previous blog post).

Still have some detailing to do, but not much really since I don't want to break the simplistic "Clash Royale" type style.  This is just a quick bpr render from zbrush, so next up I'll get this in Marmoset and setup some real materials and lighting.

New Project: Putting the rest on pause...

General / 04 September 2020

So today I saw an add on artstation here for a Supercell art competition here: https://www.ggac.net/sub/supercell/challenge/

Im gonna give it a shot!

Competition Rules:

Basically the art style should be similar to their games (very cartoony) and the theme is something that fits in one of their games world and "fairy land".

So I took that quite literally and came up with the idea of a fairy sorta controlling a steam punk dreadnaught or something.  lol.  So the fairy is in a glass bottle full of water, the hulking guy shes controlling, is a steam punk machine, with fancy attire, a monocle and boxing gloves.  His arms are the only part of him thats not clothed and its like his skin is stuffed cloth or something like that.  Anyway not the most unique thing in the world but its sorta got a lot of themes running that I like and I think will be fun to make.

I figured Id post it super early like this just to show how crappy everything starts off with me. haha.  Its really a napkin sketch and super low poly modeled shapes in zbrush just working out those most important large forms.  I actually don't even use a stylus when Im modeling in zbrush at this stage, its all mouse.  So next up, I'll start merging things and doing actual sculpting. This is only like an hour in so far.   P.S. I can't write or spell, just ignore that in my sketch. XD

Stylized Female Fighter

General / 20 August 2020

This is something I started around Christmas time.  I wanted to create a base female mesh at first, then I saw this really great concept by Felipe Kimio: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/k4eq6y and thought it would be cool to go ahead and just make that.  So the plan is to make that concept art in 3d and then sell the base mesh for a couple of bucks to those that are interested.  The base mesh is done for the most part now.  It is polypainted, has nice uvs, subdivision levels, polygroups... all the things you would want when working with a base mesh.

So at this point Im just gonna make the rest of her gear and pose her.  The hair is still blockout and I haven't done much in terms of polish to her clothes.  Anyway, here's where I am at now with this...
