Concept Sculpt I made of "Ganon" from the Zelda ip.
This was inspired mostly by the amazing work of John Patrick Gañas: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/dKLV3x
The Goal was to take this already great concept art and attempt to improve the design and translate to 3d.
Process:
-The first thing I was adjust the concept to put my own spin on it. This was done in photoshop with liquify and paintover (Scroll to bottom of the page to see that).
-3d wise it was pretty straight forward. I recorded the entire sculpt process and uploaded to youtube (link below).
-I started this out initially as a speed sculpt, but decided to take it further to what you see here. All in all it took about a solid weeks work with about half sculpting and half texturing/adjusting/rendering/presenting
-To get it done as quickly as possible it was mostly polypainted, and then auto retopoed and uv'd in zbrush.
-Next, exported to marmoset and painter to iterate. Again, the textures are mostly simple polypaint, but I wasnted to put more love into the skin specifically which I went as far as making an SSS map for (and roughness of course). There was also some quick procedural stuff I did for the gold as well.
-After the model and textures from zbrush and painter were linked, I did some additional iteration on the design and primary forms at which point I broke symmetry on the sculpt.
-Finally, I rendered out the typical passes for composite in photoshop to make the "Beauty Render" you see at the top. Did a bunch of fine tuning in photoshop then painted over a bit to make it feel more painterly and less 3d/broken. There are a whole bunch of unedited screen grabs I took also you can check out to see how the model unedited turned out. I did not want to paint too much and make this project feel all smoke and mirrors.
Anyway, had fun with this, thanks for looking and feel free to ask if you have any questions!
